Suriname beat Trinidad and Tobago in CFU Mens Scotiabank 5th Place Playoff Opener

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Suriname got off the mark in the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup 5th Place Playoff with a 2-1 victory over Trinidad and Tobago at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday night.

A goal each by Guno Kwasie in the 76th minute and Ivanildo Rozenblad in the 110th sealed the deal in Match 1 from the Suriname side. Tyrone Charles scored for Trinidad and Tobago in the 82nd minute.

Suriname will next play Haiti on Friday, January 6, starting at 7 pm, at the same venue. Match 3 is between Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, January 8, at 5 pm.
The winner of the playoff will face the winner from the UNCAF 5th Place Playoff, to vie for a spot in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Curacao, French Guiana, Jamaica and Martinique – the Caribbean Cup Group 3 winners – have already advanced to the Gold Cup. They will also contest the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup Finals from June 22-25, 2017.
