ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (April 18, 2018) – Senior females footballers from the region will be in action today, across three hosting venues, in the Caribbean Football Union Women’s Challenge Series 2018.
In Group A, which is being contested in St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will come up against St. Lucia at 5 pm ahead of the hosts taking on Dominica at 7:30 pm. Cuba will face Barbados in Jamaica in Group B action, while, in Group C, Haiti will be at home to the United States Virgin Islands.
Groups D and E, hosted in Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago respectively, begin on April 25.
The Challenge Series marks a return to competitive play for women footballers in a competition organized by the CFU. It is a point that General Secretary of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association Stanley Jacobs said is not lost on the public.
“There’s a buzz in the air,” Jacobs said. “People want to see the young ladies and see what they have to offer.”
In addition to testing their skills in the group contests, the Challenge Series 2018 will serve as preparation for the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s Qualifiers, slated for five venues across the Caribbean in May.
