Cuba turned back Suriname 2-0 to secure a place in the Final Round of the 2014 CFU Men’s Under-17 Qualifiers in the final game of Group 5, played at the Pedro Marrero Stadium in Cuba, today, Tuesday, July 29. Suriname’s woes started in the 15th minute when Carlos Borromeo scored from the penalty spot.
At the stroke of half time Cuba was leading by two goals curtesy of a strike made by Seguey Campillo. Both teams continued to play with good intensions but the 2-0 score line was already written in history and could not be erased.
Cuba now joins Barbados and Martinique as qualified contestants for the finals set to be played in Haiti in September. Groups 1 and 2 games are scheduled to start on Wednesday, August 20 simultaneously in Guadeloupe and St Lucia respectively.
