Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba cop semi spots in CFU Men’s U-20

Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba took semi-final places in Group A of the Final Round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) 2014 Men’s Under 20 Qualifiers with seven and four points respectively.

Both teams will know which teams they will face at this level from Group B today, September 17, when Dominica meets Aruba at 5:00pm and St Kitts & Nevis encounters top of the table team Haiti at 7:15pm, at the Ato Boldon Stadium where both games will be staged. In yesterday’s Group A games played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago drew 1-1 with Cuba while Curacao defeated Suriname 3-2.

Hosts Trinidad & Tobago had to come from behind to draw level with rivals Cuba after the later went ahead as early as in the 10th minute with a goal from Frank Manuel Lopez.

This score line lasted until almost the end of regulation time when Josiah Trimmingham found the equalizer for his team in the 88th minute ending the game 1-1. In the other game between Suriname and Curacao Isai Marselia was the hero for Curacao after scoring all three goals in the 23rd, 53rd and 80th minute to give his team a 3-2 victory over Suriname.

The goal scorers for Suriname were Ricardo Orveo Faerber in the 15th and Ivan Emilio Grando in the 27th. After today’s games there will be one rest day tomorrow September 18, for the teams, before the staging of the semifinals set for Friday, September 19, at the Ato Boldon Stadium. The game times are 5:00pm and 7:30pm.
